The KeepTruckin Electronic Logbook App, when used alone, is a fully editable electronic log that is a replacement for paper logs. The standalone KeepTruckin Electronic Logbook App is compliant with USDOT / FMCSA rule 395.8 regarding a driver's record of duty status and Canada's commercial vehicle drivers hours of service Regulations.

The KeepTruckin ELD is a hardware device that connects to the diagnostic port (ECM) of a vehicle. When used in combination with the KeepTruckin Electronic Logbook App, the KeepTruckin ELD automatically records driving time in compliance with USDOT / FMCSA rule 395.15 regarding automatic on-board recording devices and the recently-released final ELD rule requiring drivers to use in-cab ELDs by 2017.

Drivers can create vehicle inspection reports and record defects in the KeepTruckin Electronic Logbook App. Fleet managers can view all vehicle inspection reports in the KeepTruckin Dashboard.

The KeepTruckin ELD plugs into all standard 9-pin, 6-pin, or OBDII diagnostic ports. Additionally, if you are using a model year 2013 or newer Mack or Volvo truck, KeepTruckin provides a special cable harness. When you order an ELD you can specify the type of diagnostic port in your vehicle. We also provide Y-cables so you can hide the cabling behind a trim panel.

Active KeepTruckin ELD users will use approximately 100 MB of data per month. This will not be an issue with most cellular data plans, which typically allow for 5 GB of data each month — 50X more than what KeepTruckin uses. Data overages have not been a problem for KeepTruckin users.

Yes. The KeepTruckin ELD and Electronic Logbook App can be used offline. However, the driver must regularly open the KeepTruckin App while connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot to share logs with their company and backup data to KeepTruckin servers. We recommend using KeepTruckin with a cellular data plan.

When the KeepTruckin ELD detects that the vehicle is moving at more than 5 MPH, the vehicle is considered In Motion. When the vehicle returns to 0 MPH, the vehicle is considered Stationary. Driving time is automatically recorded on the driver's log if their mobile device is connected to the ELD and they have selected the vehicle in the KeepTruckin Electronic Logbook App.

Yes. A driver can select Personal Conveyance or Yard Move as special driving categories in the KeepTruckin Electronic Logbook App. Any driving time recorded by the ELD while the driver has selected Personal Conveyance will be considered as Off Duty time and any driving time recorded while the driver has selected Yard Move will be considered as On Duty time. Fleet managers can choose to enable or disable a driver for the Personal Conveyance and Yard Move special driving categories in the KeepTruckin Dashboard.

Where applicable, KeepTruckin supports separate rules for property and passenger-carrying vehicles. Additionally, KeepTruckin supports rules for carriers utilizing the oilfield operations exceptions under 49 CFR 395.1(d).

Yes. In the case of team drivers, both drivers need their own KeepTruckin Electronic Logbook app accounts, but they only need one KeepTruckin ELD. Driving time is assigned to the specific driver who connects their KeepTruckin Electronic Logbook app account to the ELD. When the driver finishes driving, he or she will disconnect from the ELD, allowing the next driver to establish a new ELD connection from their own account.

The KeepTruckin Electronic Logbook App is compatible with the majority of Android and iPhone/iPad devices. For Android devices, the operating system must be 4.1 or later. For iPhone/iPad devices, the operating system must be 8.0 or later. Devices without a cellular connection can be used, however the driver should regularly connect their mobile device to the Internet via Wi-Fi to automatically synchronize and backup their data to KeepTruckin servers.

Yes. When the KeepTruckin Electronic Logbook App is connected to an ELD and the vehicle is in motion, the driver will not be able to access their logs. Instead, they will see a countdown of remaining driving time based on their HOS cycle. Once the vehicle is stationary, the driver can freely navigate within the KeepTruckin App. The driver will be able to access other apps on their mobile device while the vehicle is in motion.

No. A mechanic is not required for installation. The KeepTruckin ELD comes with a cable that plugs into the vehicle's diagnostic port. The ELD unit sits on top of the dash.

The KeepTruckin ELD and Electronic Logbook App can be used offline. The KeepTruckin ELD will still continue to collect GPS data and vehicle data from the vehicle's diagnostic port (ECM) and send that data to the KeepTruckin Electronic Logbook App on the driver's mobile device. When the mobile device re-establishes an Internet connection, that data will automatically be synchronized and backed up to KeepTruckin servers.

If the driver forgets to connect the KeepTruckin Electronic Logbook App to the ELD via Bluetooth before they begin to drive, or if the connection gets interrupted, the ELD will continue to record all driving time and classify it as an Unidentified Driving Event as per DOT regulations. When the driver reconnects to the ELD, they will be prompted with an option to claim the Unidentified Driving Event. If the driver claims the Unidentified Driving Event, the driving time will be added to their logs. If the driver rejects the Unidentified Driving Event, the fleet manager will see the Unidentified Driving Event in the KeepTruckin Dashboard. All Trips that are recorded by a vehicle's ELD are stored under the vehicle's profile and can be viewed by fleet managers in the KeepTruckin Dashboard, in compliance with the latest DOT rules.

Yes. The KeepTruckin ELD uses multiple methods to prevent tampering.

The ELD will continue to record all driving time even when the driver has not connected their mobile device to the ELD via Bluetooth. All Unidentified Trips are recorded by the ELD and eventually transmitted to KeepTruckin servers the next time a driver connects to the ELD.

The ELD records all instances where a driver disconnects the ELD from the vehicle's diagnostic port, or otherwise interferes with vehicle data.

The ELD uses GPS satellite time to prevent users from manipulating their driving time by modifying their mobile device's clock.

KeepTruckin supports the two telematics data transfer protocols specified by the FMCSA for roadside inspections: web services and email.

Drivers can edit their logs for the past two weeks in the KeepTruckin Electronic Logbook App. Fleet managers can edit a driver's logs for any time period in the KeepTruckin Dashboard. All edits made by a fleet manager must be approved by the driver. When a fleet manager edits a driver's log, the driver will be prompted to approve or reject the edits in the KeepTruckin App.

Fleet managers can edit a driver's log from the KeepTruckin Dashboard in the event a mistake was made.

Drivers can edit logs for the last two weeks within the KeepTruckin Electronic Logbook App. Drivers can view and sign their past logs by signing into their account at gomotive.com. Owner-operators who wish to edit their logs from a computer must register for a fleet manager account and connect it to their driver account.

When using the KeepTruckin Electronic Logbook App without an ELD, driving time may be edited. However, if the driver is using the KeepTruckin ELD, any driving time recorded by the ELD cannot be edited. Fleet managers do have the ability to re-assign ELD driving time from one driver to another. Any reassignment of driving time must be approved by all drivers affected by the edit.

KeepTruckin will never delete your data. All log and vehicle data are stored on KeepTruckin servers and are backed up multiple times across multiple data centers. Fleet managers will always be able to access a driver's logs for the duration that the driver worked for that company and was using the KeepTruckin App. Additionally, KeepTruckin does not delete any vehicle data recorded by an ELD.
